Fast & Fun Chicken Sliders

Monday night 5 pm. I have just picked up a starving kid from flag football.  He;s behaving as if I haven’t fed him in days, never mind that he had a huge lunch only a few hours earlier. Regardless, the minute I pick him up the barage begins: What’s for dinner?” How long until… Read more »

I Need Pasta Tonight

It was a let’s cook what’s in the fridge kind of Sunday night. Had a great fun filled sports week-end and spent the day down at Stanford today playing tennis and watching tennis and having an all around great day! At the end of the day I was tired but had food and perishables that… Read more »

Mushroomy, Oniony Crostini Goodness

I needed an appetizer for a party recently. I was in Whole Foods wandering around in a daze trying to figure out what I was in the mood for. That’s when I spotted the Chanterelles. Mmmmmmmm Chanterelles. I love them so much. I had to make something featuring Chanterelles. So these Crostini were born. First,… Read more »

Tomato Pie…Oh Sweet Summer!

Tomato Pie, Tomato Pie there’s nothing quite like it. NO….It’s not a tart, in fact it’s nothing at all like a tart! Tart’s are edited and sleek, Tomato Pie is a hot, sexy mess! I love it. After much discussion about Tomato Pie this summer with everyone from “the ladies who lunch” in Highlands, North… Read more »

Get Your Fried Chicken Tacos On

The other day my friend mentioned she was in North Carolina eating fried chicken tacos. I thought “that sounds really good right now, good idea!” and I made my own version. I’m a weirdo who keeps lots of stuff in the freezer just in case I need it. Luckily, I just happened to have some… Read more »

Risotto For A Sad Tummy or Risi Bisi with Carrots Too

Many years ago when I was still living “at home” in Florida as it will forever be referred to, I was extremely fortunate to be able to take some cooking classes in Sarasota with Giuliano Hazan. Wow was I lucky! Marcella Hazan’s son learned directly from the master herself and she taught him well. I… Read more »

Chicken Soup

I needed chicken soup today. I mean needed.  I am pretty picky about my chicken soup and it is something I have been making my whole life. I have a few different versions that I tweak as needed and per occasion. Today called for straight up chicken soup, the kind your grandma would make. So… Read more »

Mushroom Toast

Ok I’ve heard from several people lately that I have really been slacking on the blogging. It’s been hot and I haven’t felt like eating or cooking. Excuses, excuses. Anyway I made a pretty tasty lunch today so I thought I’d stop being lazy and share it. A while back I read a post on… Read more »

Melanie Salad

I love this salad. My good friend Melanie takes Arugula to another level with this salad. Just wash some very bitter Arugula, shave some Pecorino over it and chop up some Marcona Almonds. Dress with lemon juice and oilive oil or a sherry vinaigrette. Add S&P. I can eat this for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

Rainy Day Lunch

It’s a rainy day in Northern California today. I’m not complaining. We need it badly. And it’s nice and cozy and warm in my house. The perfect day for a toasted cheese bread and tomato soup. I had leftover tomato sauce from dinner so I decided to turn it into soup. First I added a… Read more »

  • Hey Peop’s got leftover Peeps?

Ok Easter is over. It’s now officially time to throw away all of the leftover candy. I must get rid of these jelly beans! I’m ok with throwing candy out. It’s the Peeps I have a problem with. They are so cute and innocent looking and they only show up once a year. I have… Read more »

  • Happy Passover! Matzo Ball Soup

I have been making Matzo Ball soup essentially the same way since I went to college in Boston many many moons ago. My friend was a personal chef and she worked for a couple who taught her this recipe. It’s a winner and a crowd pleaser folks. It’s very easy and every time I make… Read more »

  • Wild Rice Cakes

I love cakes. Rice cakes, risotto cakes, crab cakes if it’s a cake it’s probably going to be good. You can pretty much make a cake (or patty) out of anything and it is a great method to use if you want to jazz up leftovers. Last night I made delicious wild rice cakes packed… Read more »

  • Huevos with Black-eyed Peas & Pork-It’s What’s for Breakfast.

I often don’t eat breakfast and when I do I seem to like weird things. I am not a real big sweet fan in the morning. I am savory all the way. When I do make breakfast I tend to root around in my refrigerator and incorporate things leftover from dinner the night before. It… Read more »

  • Spring Pizza

So the other day I kinda went crazy buying farm fresh produce at my local market. Everything was so beautiful I couldn’t resist. So, even though I only went in for a couple of things I ended up leaving with gorgeous fava beans, fresh chickpeas, organic rainbow carrots, tomatoes. spring onions & avocados. Last night… Read more »

  • Nancy Jo’s Eggplant Parm

Last night I made an Eggplant Parmesan recipe that I came across on the culinary website Food 52. The author, Nancy Jo, posted her Nonna’s recipe and the picture was so tempting I couldn’t resist trying it. I have written about Eggplant Parmesan before because it is a dish I love to make and eat… Read more »

  • Quick Sunday Pancakes

Lounging around on Sundays over a big homemade breakfast with family and coffee and the newspapers is a God given right. At least that’s how I’ve always felt. There’s just something so wonderful about that feeling of hanging with people you love and knowing you have no obligations to be anywhere or do anything. A… Read more »

  • Potatoes Au Gratin…For The Teachers

Last week was teacher appreciation week at my son’s school. We love our teachers and our school so I wanted to definitely put some effort into our appreciation gifts. • Guilty Pleasures

Ok, I have a confession. I took liberties with someone else’s recipe. I couldn’t stop myself. The thing is, I had been looking at this cookie recipe and I really really wanted to make them only I knew that they would need some tweaks to satisfy my family. Now this brings us to what is… Read more »

  • Things I like

Ever since I was sitting up at 2am with only a dial up ( it’s all they had!!!) to connect to the Internet I have thought that the www would be a game changer for the way people find recipes and think about and dialog about food. I had NO idea. For those of us… Read more »
