09 Jan It’s January! Cleanse/Fast/Cleanse
Happy 2020! I really hope everyone had great Holidays with family & friends and a very Happy New Year. After 2 1/2 weeks in Florida with family and lots of food and lots of Holiday Cheer I feel like a giant carb! So, like everyone else on the planet I’m starting out the new year with a partial fast and mini cleanse. Truth be told my normal diet is pretty consistently intermittent fasting with the once a month 2 or 3 day juice or broth fast thrown in. Then for the rest of the week I pretty much eat whatever I want. It’s what I have found consistently works for me and is easy.
When I’m broth fasting I keep it pretty simple. I use Bonafide Bone Broth which is really yummy and easy unless I make my own, which honestly I rarely do anymore.
I either use Chicken or Beef. To the beef I add a couple of carrots and a garlic clove with a little salt. Bring to a boil then leave to a simmer. Then I just sip on that all day. If I get really hungry I eat the delicious poached carrots! This is my fave broth when fasting because it’s so salty and filling. I honestly don’t get hungry at all!
An alternative is to use Chicken Broth. I usually sauté a shallot in light oil then add the broth then squeeze a couple of Meyer lemons in there and a little salt. Sometimes I use Apple Cider Vinegar as my acid. I top with a couple sliced leeks and again sip all day.
I find this to be an easy thing to do and I usually don’t ever feel starving but if I do I will eat and apple or some raw veggies with a squeeze of lemon juice and salt. In other words I don’t suffer.
Finally I will make an immunity or anti-inflammatory soup. I eat this when I am sick or feel like I’m getting sick and sometimes on broth fasting days when I feel I need a little more. So this is really flexible you just make the base then you can add veggies. Warning-This soup is very strong with garlic and turmeric. If it feels too strong you can add water or more bone broth. I got this soup recipe from a lovely fashion blogger I follow on Instagram Aimee Song or Song of Style
So I have been making all kinds of Anti-inflammatory soups but I like this one the best.
- Carrots-4-6 Diced Rainbow Carrots
- 1 small Red Onion Minced
- 4-5 Large Cloves Of Garlic Minced
- Large Piece of Ginger Minced
- Small Tumeric Root Minced
- Water or Bone Broth or a mixture of both
- S & P to Taste
So that’s basically it for the base. In a saute pan add some olive oil and saute the garlic, onions, Ginger, Tumeric. While those are simmering get your broth boiling. I used one bag of Chicken Bone Broth and to that added 4 cups of water because I wanted to make a lot. Once the veggies are sautéed add those along with the carrots to the broth and a little S & P and simmer on a low to medium heat for 30 or so minutes. Aimee Song then finishes hers with cauliflower and Parsley. I added Cauliflower Rice, Leeks and Dill to mine. You could use Spinach, Lentils, Chickpeas, Arugula, Red Bell Pepper or basically make it your own.
I know some people don’t like fasting but I love it! I feel so much better, less bloated and more energetic. It shrinks your stomach and after fasting regularly you really don’t want to overeat!
